You think they want someone who knows 15 programming languages? They don’t. Here’s what they actually care about.

1. Can you solve problems? They will give you a problem you’ve never seen. They don’t care if you know the syntax off the top of your head. They care about how you think. Talk through your thought process. Break the problem down.

2. Can you work with a team? Tech is a team sport. They want someone who communicates well, asks for help, and gives feedback. Being a jerk who codes fast is worse than being average and easy to work with.

3. Do you know the fundamentals? Frameworks change every year. Fundamentals don’t. If you understand how data structures work, you can learn any framework. If you only know React but don’t understand JavaScript, you’re fragile.

4. Do you have a growth mindset? They want someone who learns fast. If you can show that you taught yourself a new language or technology quickly, that’s a huge green flag.
