What is Prompt Engineering?

Prompt engineering is the skill of talking to AI. It’s about asking the right questions to get the best results.

Think of AI like a brilliant but literal intern. If you say, “Write something about dogs,” you’ll get something generic. If you say, “Write a 500-word blog post about Labrador retrievers for a pet owner audience, using a friendly tone and including three health tips,” you’ll get something amazing.

Prompt engineering involves giving the AI context, examples, and clear instructions. You can tell it to act as a specific person. You can give it a format to follow. You can ask it to explain its reasoning.

This is a new job category. Companies are hiring prompt engineers to get the most out of AI models. It doesn’t require coding (though it helps). It requires clear thinking and good communication.
